About

I'm Yvette-Michelle Cottle Darby, the designer and owner of Verona Collections. I am a mother of two amazing boys, Matthew 9 and Miles who is just 20 months old. My husband Don and I moved our family from Toronto to Shanty Bay, Ontario. We love being on Lake Simcoe, and my husband loves being back in his home town.
I design original limited edition and one-of-a-kind handmade handbags, jewellery, fashion accessories, clothing and home decor items. I established Verona Collections in 1994, and it has seen many changes over the years.
I have been creative for as long as I can remember. My introduction to sewing was at age eight and I started machine sewing at eleven. I love fabric and I love transforming fabric into beautiful new designs.

I was born and grew-up on the island of Trinidad, where my love for textiles was nurtured by the wealth of different cultures that inhabit the twin isle of Trinidad and Tobago. I learned how to tie dye and batik at an early age, and has been influenced by the amazing vibrancy of African prints, Chinese silks and beaded East Indian saris. I also receive my inspiration from nature and is an avid gardener.

I have started this blog as a way to share the things that inspire me and my work. It is also a space for me to share my creative process and the activities in my studio. I hope that you will enjoy my blog and will be inspired to explore your own creativity.
